St. Vincent de Paul Parish – Kibamba was declared a parish on the 27th of June 2010 by His Eminence Polycarp Cardinal Pengo, Archbishop of Dar es Salaam and its care was entrusted to the Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (MCBS), Emmaus Province. This new parish church will be one of several proposed satellite urban centres around the outskirts of the city of Dar es Salaam.

Short History

In 1970 a group of Catholic families of Kibamba began gathering together in their own private houses to pray. Subsequently they were given the chance to celebrate Holy Mass in the church of Anglicans. In 1982 the Catholic faithful themselves constructed a church using wood and mud. In 1983 it officially became an outstation of St. Don Bosco Parish, Kibaha. Fathers from Kibaha Parish came for Sunday Mass to the Kibamba outstation.

Through their local contributions and international assistance, the Catholics of Kibamba purchased land for construction of the parish church in 2005. Then, in 2007 His Eminence Polycarp Cardinal Pengo laid the foundation stone for building a new parish church at Kibamba. On the 27th of July 2010, the Kibamba outstation was declared as St. Vincent de Paul Parish – Kibamba and was entrusted to the care of the Emmaus Province of the Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. The first Parish Priest and Assistant Parish Priest of this new parish are respectively, Father Prijo Joseph and Father Shaju Chacko.
